This service is for 2016 GM vehicle owners who already have Apple CarPlay working but cannot get Android Auto to connect, pair, or function — and whose glove box RPO label does not include the code CPO.
If that’s you, your vehicle has an HMI 2.5 infotainment unit. Your hardware is already CarPlay-capable. Android Auto is simply absent from the software configuration, and this service restores it.
This is not a hardware replacement. You ship your existing HMI module to WAMS. We apply the VIN-specific Android Auto software update and return it ready to reinstall. Faster. Simpler. No new module required.

How to Confirm You Need This Service
Before ordering, verify all three of the following:
- Apple CarPlay connects and works normally in your 2016 GM vehicle
- Android Auto either fails to appear in the system menu, fails to connect, or prompts an error
- Your glove box RPO label does NOT include the code CPO
If all three are true, you have an HMI 2.5 with missing Android Auto software — exactly the scenario this service resolves.
If CarPlay is also not working, or if CPO is on your RPO label, you need our full HMI Replacement service for RPO CPO vehicles instead.

- Identifies your exact HMI 2.5 configuration and VIN mapping
- Applies the correct Android Auto software profile specific to your vehicle’s VIN
- Verifies full CarPlay and Android Auto functionality before returning the module
- Ships your updated HMI back — ready for direct plug-in reinstallation
The entire process is non-destructive. Your existing unit is returned — no replacement hardware, no new module, no permanent changes to your vehicle.

Compatibility
This service applies to 2016 GM vehicles with the 8″ IO5/IO6 system that meet all of the following:
- No RPO code CPO on the glove box label
- Apple CarPlay already functional
- Android Auto absent or non-functional
Compatible models: 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, Cadillac Escalade, and other 2016 GM vehicles with the 8″ display. Not compatible with the 7″ IOB system.
How to Order
- Confirm your vehicle has HMI 2.5 — CarPlay works, no CPO on your RPO label.
- Place your order. Your VIN is collected during checkout.
- Remove your HMI module and ship it to the WAMS address provided at checkout.
- WAMS programs your module with Android Auto and returns it — fast turnaround.
- Reinstall your module. Disconnect and reconnect the 12V battery. Done.
Installation Note
After reinstalling your updated HMI, it is strongly recommended to disconnect and reconnect your 12V battery. This reduces the chance of unnecessary DTCs or module initialization issues. The install is a direct plug-in — no cutting, no dealer visit, no additional programming required.
