WAMS Spec is our own custom eLSD calibration for the 2017-2024 Camaro SS 1LE and ZL1, manual or automatic. It is not a GM dealer calibration. We developed it in-house and deliver it on a brand-new GM chassis control module (CCM) programmed to your VIN.

The differential gets more locking torque, more turn-in preload and calmer yaw correction, and your car’s own physical constants stay in the model. Running non-factory tires? We correct the calibration for them at no extra charge.

Plug and play, with nothing to flash. Your original module returns the car to stock, and the hardware carries full GM warranty. For off-road and track use only.

Description

WAMS Spec is our own custom calibration for the electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) on the 2017-2024 Camaro SS 1LE and ZL1, manual or automatic. It is not a GM or Chevrolet Performance calibration. We developed it in-house and deliver it on a brand-new GM chassis control module (CCM) programmed to your VIN.

On these cars the CCM runs the eLSD, so its calibration decides how hard the rear differential locks, how early it preloads in a corner, and how much it intervenes when the car rotates. You plug the new module in, and the differential is set up for the track.

This is not a generic tune. We mapped the CCM calibration down to individual fields, worked out what each one does, and built our calibration from there, keeping your car’s own physical constants in place.

WAMS Spec vs GM’s dealer eLSD calibrations

GM has offered dealer-installed eLSD calibrations for these cars, and they are a different product. Here is how they compare:

GM dealer eLSD calibrations WAMS Spec custom calibration
Developed by GM / Chevrolet Performance WAMS, in-house
Purpose SS 1LE: road course and autocross. ZL1: drag strip Track calibration for the SS 1LE and ZL1
When it works Intended for use with traction control turned off In every drive mode
How you get it Dealer reflash of your module, car at the dealer New GM module you plug in yourself; keep your original
Tires Factory tire model Corrected for your tires at no extra charge
Per-mode custom builds No Yes, quoted to order

What changes in the eLSD calibration

The changes are all in the CCM’s main chassis tune, and each drive mode keeps its own tables. On the SS 1LE, compared with the stock calibration:

Calibration area Change from stock SS 1LE What you feel
Locking torque under power 57% to 87% more, depending on drive mode Stronger drive off the corner, both rear tires working
Steering-based preload 68% to 132% more The differential is already engaged as you turn in
Yaw correction gains Roughly half Calmer under power, less catching the car after it rotates
Assumed rear tire grip About 9% higher, temperature schedule shifted hot Tuned for track tires that run, and grip, hotter
Slip targets and apply and release rates Reshaped per mode Cleaner transitions between locked and open

WAMS Spec leans on mechanical grip rather than on correcting the car after it moves. The ZL1 gets the same strategy, built on the ZL1’s own constants.

Why your Camaro’s own physics stay in the calibration

The CCM does not just hold lookup tables. It runs a model of the car built from physical constants: front and rear track width, center of gravity position and height, vehicle mass and sensor scaling. Get those wrong and the controller is modeling a car you are not driving, however good the rest of the tune is.

We keep those constants at your car’s own values and change only the tuning, so the model underneath still matches your Camaro.

Does your Camaro have the electronic limited-slip differential?

The “1LE” name alone does not settle it. Between 2017 and 2021 Chevrolet also sold an LT 1LE with the 2.0 turbo or V6, and that car uses a mechanical limited-slip differential.

Check the RPO label. Look for G96, the electronic limited-slip differential. G80 is the mechanical limited-slip and means this module will not fit. Our RPO code guide explains how to read the label.

Camaro models and years this CCM fits
  • 2017-2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE (1SS and 2SS with the 1LE package) with the 6-speed manual
  • 2021-2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE with the 10-speed automatic
  • 2017-2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with the 6-speed manual or the 10-speed automatic

Camaros this CCM does not fit

    • Camaro ZL1 1LE: not covered.
    • 2017-2021 Camaro LT 1LE (2.0 turbo or V6): mechanical limited-slip differential, no eLSD.
    • Camaro LT1, and SS without the 1LE package: mechanical limited-slip differential.
    • 2016 Camaro and earlier generations: not covered.

Installing the CCM: plug and play, and fully reversible

The module ships programmed to your VIN. Disconnect the battery, swap the CCM and reconnect. You do not need a dealer, a tuning device or a laptop.

The module and the install are the same for manual and automatic cars. We build the calibration for your car’s transmission from the VIN and the options on your order, so choose your transmission when you order.

Keep your original module. If you ever want the factory calibration back, plug it back in.

Only the differential calibration changes. Engine and transmission calibrations stay as they are, and the exhaust valves keep the factory schedule for your car. The differential’s own diagnostics stay active, and StabiliTrak and traction control work as they do from the factory.

Each module is special order, programmed to the VIN on your order, and not returnable.

Off-road and track use only

This calibration is sold for off-road, closed-course and competition use only. It is not intended or sold for use on public roads. It changes how hard the rear differential locks, and more locking torque puts more load on the differential, axles and tires. Motorsport carries a real risk of injury, death and damage to the car.

When you add it to your cart you confirm your car’s fitment and that it is for off-road use only, and at checkout you accept our Terms and Conditions, including the assumption of risk and the limits on our liability in Section 2.1. Please read them before you order.

Built for your tires, and custom per-mode builds

The CCM calibration contains a model of the tires: grip-versus-temperature curves for each axle, plus rolling radius. GM set them for the factory tires. If you have changed rear tire width or compound, for example a square 305 setup or a more aggressive compound, the differential is calculating traction for rubber you no longer run. WAMS Spec scales that model to your tires at no extra charge: choose Changed from factory under Tires when you order, enter your front and rear sizes and the tire make and model, and we build the calibration for them. The corrections are physics-based engineering estimates, kept conservative, because GM never published data for most aftermarket setups.

Each drive mode also carries its own complete differential calibration, so we can build to order: the track calibration in one mode and stock behavior in another, so you can compare them from the driver’s seat, or individual adjustments mode by mode. Per-mode builds are quoted before you order, so contact us with your car and what you want.

Why order your Camaro CCM from WAMS

We have worked on GM electronics for more than 20 years, and WAMS Spec came out of our own shop in Wixom, Michigan, worked out field by field rather than downloaded. Every module is brand-new GM hardware with full GM warranty, programmed to your VIN before it ships. Setting the car up for track days? Our Camaro PDR GPS fix kit restores accurate lap tracing on 2019-2024 cars with the Performance Data Recorder.

WAMS Spec Camaro SS 1LE and ZL1 eLSD calibration questions, 2017-2024

What does the chassis control module do on a 2017-2024 Camaro?

On a Camaro built with the electronic limited-slip differential, the chassis control module (CCM) is the controller that runs it. It reads wheel speed, steering angle, yaw rate, acceleration and axle torque, runs a model of the car, and decides many times a second how hard to lock the rear differential’s clutches. Its calibration decides how the differential behaves in each drive mode.

Which Camaros does this CCM fit?

The 2017-2024 Camaro SS 1LE and the 2017-2024 Camaro ZL1, with the manual or the automatic transmission. Both have the electronic limited-slip differential, RPO G96 on the car’s RPO label. The ZL1 1LE is not covered, because its factory calibration is already close to maximum effort.

Will it work on a Camaro LT 1LE, an LT1 or an SS without the 1LE package?

No. Those cars use a mechanical limited-slip differential, so there is no electronic differential for this calibration to control. That includes the 2.0 turbo and V6 1LE cars, which carry the 1LE name but not the eLSD.

Does it work on automatic Camaros?

Yes. It is available for manual and automatic cars: the 2017-2024 SS 1LE with the 6-speed manual, the 2021-2024 SS 1LE with the 10-speed automatic, and the 2017-2024 ZL1 with either transmission. We build the calibration for your transmission from your VIN, so choose your transmission when you order.

Is WAMS Spec the same as the GM or Chevrolet Performance eLSD calibration?

No. WAMS Spec is our own custom calibration, developed in-house. GM’s dealer calibrations for these cars are special-purpose: a road course and autocross calibration for the SS 1LE and a drag strip calibration for the ZL1, each meant for use with traction control turned off and installed by reflashing your module at a dealer. WAMS Spec changes the differential’s behavior in every drive mode, keeps your car’s physical constants, can be corrected for your tires, and arrives as a new GM module you plug in.

Does it change engine power, shifting or exhaust?

No. The CCM controls the electronic limited-slip differential. Engine and transmission calibrations are untouched, so shifting stays factory on manual and automatic cars alike, and the exhaust valve behavior stays the factory schedule for your car.

Will it set codes or upset StabiliTrak?

It should not. The module runs a complete, matched calibration in GM’s own format, so it starts up the way it would with a factory calibration, and the differential’s own diagnostics stay fully active. StabiliTrak and traction control work as they do from the factory.

Is it plug and play?

Yes. The module arrives programmed to your VIN. Disconnect the battery, swap the module and reconnect. There is nothing to flash and no tool to buy.

Can I go back to the stock calibration?

Yes. You keep your original module, so going back to stock means plugging it back in.

Is the module new?

Yes. It is a brand-new GM chassis control module with full GM warranty on the hardware, never used or pulled from another car.

I run different tires. Does that matter?

It can. The calibration contains a model of the tires, and GM tuned it for the factory rubber. If you changed width or compound on the rear axle, the differential is working from a tire you no longer run. When you order, choose Changed from factory under Tires and enter your front and rear sizes and tire make and model, and we build the calibration for them at no extra charge.

Can you make only one drive mode aggressive?

Yes, as a custom build. Each drive mode has its own complete set of differential tables, so we can place the track calibration in one mode and keep the stock behavior in another, or tune modes individually. Custom builds are quoted before you order, so contact us first.

Is it for street use?

No. It is sold for off-road, closed-course and competition use only. You confirm off-road use when you add it to your cart, and you accept our Terms and Conditions, including the assumption of risk in Section 2.1, at checkout.

Can I return it?

No. Each module is special order and programmed to the VIN on your order, so it is not returnable. Confirm your car has the electronic limited-slip differential before ordering.
