Description
The CSM or Center Stack Module (often mislabeled as an HMI or simply “radio module”) is the infotainment computer in most 2017.5-2026 GM vehicles. Common failures include a blank or black display, scrambled or frozen graphics, and the message “Update Failed. Return to Dealer.”
We supply the correct North American spec factory-new unit with full GM warranty for your application, pre-programmed to your VIN and ready for a simple plug-and-play self install, no dealer needed. These are also pre-registered on the GM backend so WiFi, App Shop and your mobile app keep working.
First: confirm your vehicle actually has a CSM
Not every GM vehicle has one. Base and work trims frequently shipped with an IOR radio instead. That is a conventional radio whose home screen looks very similar but has no App Shop. Every CSM sold in North America has the App Shop. If yours doesn’t, you have an IOR radio and this is not the right part.
Scan the QR code on your driver door / B-pillar to pull up your RPO list, or check the SPID label in your glovebox. You can also try our RPO Lookup Tool for most 2022+ GM vehicles.
| RPO code | What it means |
|---|---|
| IOS | CSM, 8″ display |
| IOU | CSM, 8″ display with factory navigation |
| IOT | CSM, 8″ display with factory navigation and additional memory |
| IOK | CSM with Google built-in. Full-size trucks and SUVs, and 2024-2025 C8 Corvette |
| IOV | CSM for the 2021-2024 Escalade and Escalade ESV only |
| IOR | Conventional radio, NOT a CSM. This product will not fit. See our Replacement IOR Radio Module. |
How to order
Enter your VIN and we’ll identify your vehicle automatically. Then select your radio type from your RPO list. If your vehicle only ever came with one CSM type, we’ll show it rather than asking you to choose.
You no longer need to work out your electrical architecture, hunt for your model year in a list, or determine whether a 2022 truck is a pre-refresh or refresh build. All of that is now derived from your VIN.
What you are still responsible for is the RPO code. We cannot see your vehicle and we do not verify it. If you select IOT and your vehicle was built with IOS, you will receive an IOT unit and it will not work correctly. Check your label before ordering.
What this is, and what it is not
This is a direct factory-spec replacement programmed to the configuration your vehicle left the factory with, backed by the full GM parts warranty.
It is not an upgrade, downgrade or change of any sort. It will not add navigation, wireless CarPlay, HD Radio or any feature your vehicle did not already have. See the upgrade services linked below if that’s what you’re after.
North American spec only. Export units available on request. Contact us for pricing.
Please have the vehicle professionally diagnosed by a GM dealer before ordering, as these are not returnable. Several faults present like a CSM failure without being one.
Please note: these are special order and subject to various lead times, though they generally fill within the posted processing time. 2019-2024 Global A/B IOS/IOU/IOT and IOV units are on backorder and will fill as soon as humanly possible. Because of how these are ordered, the 24-hour cancellation policy applies to backordered units as well.

Frequently asked questions
Q: How do I know whether I have a CSM, and which type?
A: Look at the home screen images in the product gallery. There is one Cadillac layout (dark blue background on everything except Escalade), one very similar layout for all other GM brands running IOS/IOU/IOT, and one for Google built-in (IOK), found in full-size trucks and SUVs and the 2024-2025 C8 Corvette. If your home screen matches one of those, you very likely have a CSM. Then scan the QR code on your driver door / B-pillar to pull up your RPO list and look for IOS, IOU, IOT, IOK or IOV. That is your CSM type. IOR radios have home screens that look very similar but do not have the App Shop. Every North American CSM has the App Shop, so if you don’t have it you have an IOR radio and this is not for you.
Q: How do I tell which vehicle architecture I have?
A: You don’t need to any more. We derive it from your vehicle and VIN when you use the selector above. For 2022 Silverado and Sierra 1500 the answer depends on whether yours is a pre-refresh (2022.1) or refresh (2022.5) build, which we read from your VIN. That is why the VIN is required before we can confirm a part for those trucks.
Q: Why is my radio type already filled in?
A: Some vehicles only ever came with one CSM type. The 2021-2024 Escalade is IOV, most 2022+ full-size trucks and SUVs are IOK. When that is the case we show the answer rather than asking you to pick from a list of one. You should still confirm it matches your RPO list.
Q: Why did the price change when I selected my radio type?
A: Different CSM configurations are different parts at different costs. The price shown before you select is our lowest configuration; once your selection is complete it updates to your actual price and shows the breakdown.
Q: I have a 2021-2024 Escalade and none of the displays look like the pictures.
A: 2021-2024 Escalade and Escalade ESV use a dedicated CSM under RPO IOV built specifically for that vehicle. We do supply it. Select your Escalade above and it will be chosen automatically, since it is the only option for that vehicle.
Q: I have an IOR radio, not a CSM. What do I need?
A: IOR is a separate system with no App Shop, fitted to base and work trims. A CSM will not fit an IOR vehicle. We supply those separately, covering 2018-2026 Silverado, Sierra, Equinox, Malibu, Camaro, Blazer, Terrain, Colorado, Canyon and Acadia. See our Replacement IOR Radio Module.
Q: Do these units come programmed?
A: Yes, pre-programmed to your VIN before shipping.
Q: Do I need to visit a dealer to install one?
A: No. The units are pre-programmed for simple plug-and-play replacement after disconnecting the battery.
Q: Will my OnStar WiFi, App Shop and mobile app still work?
A: Yes. These come pre-registered on the GM backend for continuity.
Q: Is there a core charge? Do I have to return my faulty CSM?
A: No and no. We do not have a core charge and do not require a core return, as we do not resell cores. Please recycle your old unit responsibly.
Q: Can I change from navigation to non-navigation, or the other way round?
A: Not with this product. This is a 1:1 replacement for whatever your vehicle was built with at the factory. We do offer navigation upgrade services elsewhere in the shop that can be combined with this purchase.
Q: Can this be used to retrofit features?
A: No. We may offer other kits that retrofit the feature you’re after, and some are linked above.
Q: I pulled a specific part number out of my vehicle. How do I match it?
A: You don’t need to. These units were superseded often, so the number on your old unit doesn’t matter. Selecting your vehicle and radio type gets you the current part number for your application.
Q: The bag was opened when I received the unit.
A: Normal. Some of these come in sealed bags and we have to open them in order to program and test the unit.
Q: Will this fix the issue I’m experiencing?
A: Any potential CSM replacement needs to be diagnosed by a GM dealer prior to ordering. Many things present as a CSM failure without being CSM related. We test every unit before shipping, so if this doesn’t resolve your issue, the dealer who diagnosed it needs to look further. That includes the ghost input issue below, even given the near-certain odds the screen is the culprit.
Q: My infotainment says “Update Failed. Return to Dealer”.
A: That is probably the only failure mode for these that is a sure thing. It is very common and this will fix it.
Q: My display registers inputs on its own, like a ghost is operating it.
A: Generally no, this will not fix that. Ghost touch is typically caused by a faulty digitizer in the screen.
Q: My unit said “NO VIN” when installed. Is that normal?
A: Yes. Assuming your vehicle is functioning correctly it will say that briefly at install and then go away for good. We program the unit with software specific to the VIN provided, but some of these learn the vehicle VIN from the data bus at first power up and lock to it.
Q: My new unit mentioned demo mode, or said the vehicle must be sold.
A: Since these are new, the CSM thinks it is in a vehicle that hasn’t been sold yet. Press the choice indicating the vehicle has been sold at the initial boot screen. If you missed it, let the vehicle go fully to sleep with no key nearby for about 15 minutes, then start it and the menu will reappear.

Forgot to mention I bought one from a “big name” online store before thankfully finding WAMS. The big name .com place shipped me a used HMI! When pressed they told me thats all they sell are salvage/pull outs and the worst part is I paid MORE than the NEW unit from WAMS!!
Jason Ramirez (verified owner) –

Luis Flores (verified owner) –
amazing deal and customer service
miker (verified owner) –
My dealer wanted nearly $1,500 for this part. WAMS sold me a genuine new module pre-programmed for my VIN for less than half. Installed in 20 minutes and fixed my issue completely.
alexluvstrux (verified owner) –
Ordered one from a “big name” and it showed up dead dirty and full of corrosion. WAMS shipped a new one that worked right out of the box. Literally plug-and-play.
William Burrows (verified owner) –
Had mine in and working before the dealer received their part. Fast and easy, very informative. Would buy here again. Would recommend. Thank you.
Mike Young (verified owner) –
After wasting money on a ‘refurbished’ CSM from another site that arrived scratched and dead, I tried WAMS. Got a brand new OEM module for one-third the dealer price and it worked immediately.
