Description
Is your Colorado or Canyon screen changing stations by itself, ignoring your finger in one corner, or cracked across the glass? This Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon touch screen replacement is the genuine OEM GM 8 inch touch screen assembly for the 2015-2022 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, sourced through GM for your exact truck. It plugs in with no programming and no dealer visit.
The second-generation Colorado and Canyon used two different infotainment systems with an 8 inch screen over eight model years, and GM built the screen in several versions that do not interchange. This listing covers all of them. You pick your truck, and the vehicle picker decodes your VIN and sends the version your truck was built with.
What you receive is the complete screen assembly that sits in the dash, the unit GM catalogs as the radio control assembly. It is not a loose display panel, and it is not the HMI, CSM or IOR radio behind the dash, which stays in your truck.
About the photos: the main photo shows the 2015-2018 screen, used on trucks with the IO5 or IO6 system. The second photo shows the 2019-2022 screen. The 2015-2018 and 2019-2022 screens look different and do not interchange, so make sure you are looking at the one for your model year. Within each range, GM built more than one version, and the vehicle picker sends the one that matches your VIN.

*GM has discontinued the screen for the 2015-2018 Colorado and 2017-2018 Canyon, and there is no new replacement. Those trucks receive a GM factory refurbished unit with the same GM warranty. We do not substitute salvage or aftermarket screens.
This listing does not fit: Colorado and Canyon trucks with the 7 inch screen (see our 7 inch infotainment screen for 2019-2022), the 2023 and later Colorado and Canyon, which are a new generation, or full-size trucks (see our 2014-2019 and 2019-2023 Silverado and Sierra screens).
Two different 8 inch screens on 2019-2022 trucks
From 2019, the Colorado and Canyon could carry either of two 8 inch displays, and the RPO code tells them apart:
- UIK: the high-resolution 8 inch display used with the uplevel infotainment system.
- UIJ: the standard-resolution 8 inch display used with the base IOR system. GM moved some 8 inch trims to this combination starting in 2021.
They are separate parts and do not interchange. The vehicle picker works out which one your truck has from the VIN, so you never need to identify it yourself. (A truck with UIR has the 7 inch screen, which is a different listing.)
Red or blue/green lighting on the Canyon
The 2015 and 2016 GMC Canyon used red lighting on the screen controls. GMC switched to blue/green for 2017, and every Colorado used blue/green. Because the lighting is built into the assembly, the red Canyon screen is its own part. The picker reads make and year and sends the matching one.
Confirm you have the 8 inch screen
Screen size is the one detail your VIN cannot tell us, so you confirm it when you order your Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon touch screen replacement. There are two quick ways:
- Check your RPO codes. On a 2015-2018 truck, IO5 or IO6 means the 8 inch system, and IOB means the 7 inch base radio. On a 2019-2022 truck, UIJ or UIK means 8 inch and UIR means 7 inch. Earlier trucks print the codes on a label in the glove box; later trucks show them when you scan the QR code on the driver door jamb. Our GM RPO code lookup explains each code.
- Measure on the diagonal. Run the tape from one corner of the lit display to the opposite corner. An 8 inch screen is only about 7 inches wide, so measuring straight across a real 8 inch screen reads “7” and is the most common way people order the wrong part.
What a Chevy Colorado touch screen replacement fixes
A failing Colorado or Canyon screen usually shows up as one of these. All of them are faults in the screen assembly itself, so a touch screen replacement fixes them:
- Ghost touch: inputs you never made, such as stations changing, menus opening or calls dialing on their own. Our tech note on ghost touches and phantom inputs in GM vehicles explains what causes it.
- Dead zones: part or all of the glass stops responding while the picture still looks normal.
- Dark or faded patches in the image.
- Cracked or shattered glass.
When the screen is not the problem
Before you order a Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon touch screen replacement, rule out the module. The screen only displays the picture. A module behind the dash generates it, and which module that is depends on your truck:
- 2015-2018 (IO5 or IO6): the HMI module. See our Replacement GM HMI Module.
- 2019-2022 with the uplevel system (UIK screen): the CSM. See our Replacement GM CSM Module.
- 2021-2022 with the base IOR system (UIJ screen): the IOR radio. See our Replacement GM IOR Radio Module.
A black or blank display, lines or scrambled images, or a system that freezes, reboots or hangs on the logo can be that module failing rather than the screen. Because these screens are non-returnable, have the truck diagnosed before ordering if you see any of those. Not sure? Send us your VIN and a description of what the screen is doing.
Part numbers on the old screen
Most of the numbers GM originally put on these screens have since been superseded. We supply the current GM number for your truck, so the label on your new screen may not match your old one. That is expected.
Installing your Chevy Colorado touch screen replacement
No programming and no dealer visit. Release the old assembly with a nylon trim tool, unplug it, connect the new one, confirm the image and touch response, then press it back into the dash.

Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon touch screen replacement: frequently asked questions
Which Colorado and Canyon trucks does this screen fit?
This Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon touch screen replacement fits every 2015-2022 Colorado and Canyon that left the factory with the 8 inch screen. On 2015-2018 trucks that means the IO5 or IO6 system (MyLink on the Colorado, IntelliLink on the Canyon). On 2019-2022 trucks it means RPO code UIJ or UIK. Trucks with the 7 inch screen and the 2023 and later generation are not covered.
How can I check my RPO codes to confirm I have the 8 inch screen?
Look at your truck’s RPO codes, printed on the label in the glove box on earlier trucks or shown by scanning the QR code on the driver door jamb on later ones. On a 2015-2018 truck, IO5 or IO6 means the 8 inch system and this listing fits, while IOB means the 7 inch base radio. On a 2019-2022 truck, UIJ or UIK means an 8 inch screen and this listing fits, while UIR means the 7 inch screen.
Why does GM make two different 8 inch screens for the 2019-2022 Colorado and Canyon?
Because two different infotainment systems used an 8 inch screen. RPO UIK is the high-resolution 8 inch display used with the uplevel system, and RPO UIJ is the standard-resolution 8 inch display used with the base IOR system, which GM fitted to some 8 inch trims starting in 2021. They are not interchangeable. The vehicle picker reads your VIN and sends the one your truck was built with.
Do I have to pick a part number, trim or version?
No. Choose your truck in the vehicle picker and it resolves the correct screen from the VIN, including the trim and the lighting color. The only thing you confirm is that your truck has the 8 inch screen. If the trim cannot be confirmed from the VIN, the picker asks you to contact us rather than guess.
My tape measure says 7 inches. Do I have the 7 inch screen?
Not necessarily. Screen sizes are measured on the diagonal, and an 8 inch screen is only about 7 inches wide, so a tape laid straight across a genuine 8 inch screen reads 7. Measure the lit area from one corner to the opposite corner, or check your RPO codes.
Will I receive a new or a refurbished screen?
That depends on the truck. GM has discontinued the screen for the 2015-2018 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2017-2018 GMC Canyon with no new replacement, so those trucks receive a GM factory refurbished unit with the same GM warranty. The 2015-2016 Canyon and all 2019-2022 trucks receive a brand-new GM screen. We never supply salvage or aftermarket screens.
Why does the 2015 or 2016 GMC Canyon get its own screen?
Those two years of Canyon used red control lighting. GMC changed to blue/green lighting for 2017, and the Colorado used blue/green throughout. A blue/green screen in a 2015-2016 Canyon would not match the rest of the dash, so the red version is a separate part and the vehicle picker selects it for you.
Is this the screen or the radio?
It is the complete 8 inch screen assembly mounted in the dash, which GM catalogs as the radio control assembly. The module that runs the system (the HMI, CSM or IOR radio, depending on the year) is a separate part behind the dash and stays in your truck.
Which screen is shown in the photos?
The main photo shows the 2015-2018 screen, for trucks with the IO5 or IO6 system. The second photo shows the 2019-2022 screen. The two look different and do not interchange. The vehicle picker sends the version that matches your VIN, including the red-lit 2015-2016 Canyon screen and the two 2019-2022 versions.
My Colorado or Canyon screen is black or scrambled. Will a new screen fix it?
Maybe not. The image comes from a module behind the dash: the HMI on 2015-2018 trucks, the CSM on 2019-2022 trucks with the uplevel system, and the IOR radio on 2021-2022 trucks with the base system. A black, blank or scrambled display, lines, freezing or rebooting can be that module rather than the screen. Have the truck diagnosed first, because these screens are non-returnable. Ghost touch, unresponsive areas, dark patches and cracked glass are screen faults that a new screen does fix.
Is there programming or a core charge?
Neither. This Chevy Colorado touch screen replacement plugs in with no programming and no dealer visit, and there is no core charge or core return.
Does this fit the 2023 and later Colorado or Canyon?
No. The 2023 and later Colorado and Canyon are a new generation with a different infotainment system, and this screen does not fit them.
